Tuesday: Lots of sorting books, OFCOURSE, luckily a lot of breaks as well.
I get one quarter in the morning, one hour for lunch and then another quarter in the afternoon.
Tomorrow I will have a day off, because the library isn’t open on Wednesday. I will join Mikila when she goes to work, so I can spend the day closer to the centre of London. I’m probably going to visit museums. Then The Natural History museum, The Science museum, etc. are just around the corner.
(this is too short to have its own page, right?)

On my first day off I joined Mikila when she went to work. Today I experienced London’s underground at its worst, because this week they started their strike, which will carry on until the end of next work week. Like I expected every single train was completely full, in the morning rush. We even had to wait longer because we couldn’t fit inside any of the compartments. When we arrived at our last station there was just a short walk left.
At ten o’clock the museums opened. I went to the Science museum first.
The Science Museum: it is built (almost) chronological and updated until today. It all started with the first (steam) engines and so the museum does too. There are many different examples and versions of these engines. Many of them are exposed in this museum.
The next section is all about Space travelling, from the first experiment until the space shuttles. The most impressive thing in this part were the engines of early “small” rockets and their size. To me this section was the only one which didn’t fit the chronological order.
The third section was stuffed with new inventions of the ages, both big and small, from shop to shovel. Some examples: the first machine which made open heart surgery possible (by bypassing the heart and supplying the body with oxygen-rich blood) and the Sno Cat: a tracked vehicle for snow conditions, it looks like a orange jeep raised with its tiers replaced with tracks.
The final part was about the news inventions, like: the Hadron collider, 3d-printing and Termite-Inspired Robots, that can build things bigger then themselves.
After that I couldn’t find the exit, but later found out that English museums use the entrances as exits (even if the museum is very linear). Then I went to the Natural History museum. I took the side entrance which brought me to the Earth, as a rock/ planet. Which mostly was about the transformation by earthquakes, erosion and eruption (strict alphabetical). It wasn’t the most interesting part of the museum.
The rest of the day I looked at the rest of the massive collection that was on exhibition. Containing: fossils, gems, skeletons and taxidermies of a lot of different animals and a detailed description of how flies spread around poop. (this is how the library looks before you order everything)
Tomorrow I will go back to the library. Unfortunately the manager, Sonal (who normally guides me in the way of the librarian), won’t be there. Still there will be a lot to do.
